Mission:

The mission of SETPOINT West Yorkshire is to create a framework of policy and collaboration within which existing centres, schemes, systems and services can work more effectively to enhance teaching, learning, skills and training and to promote good experience of industry for the advancement of education for the public benefit.

Objectives:

SETPOINT West Yorkshire as an organisation is required to help deliver the following objectives set by DfES and DTI / SETNET:
  • Help pupils and students to develop an understanding of the world of work to improve employability.
  • Help pupils and students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes which will help them develop enterprise capability, financial literacy and economic and business understanding
  • Enhance the delivery of the national curriculum and in particular the work related element of key stage 4.
  • Raise levels of achievement in schools and narrow the achievement gap.
  • Improve the behaviour, attendance and motivation of pupils.
The SETPOINT will provide the opportunity of at least one STEM enhancement or enrichment to the curriculum of every child, in each key stage, of every school in West Yorkshire (990).

SETPOINT West Yorkshire will work in support of Yorkshire Forward's Regional Economic Strategy and the delivery of Education Development Plans of the 5 sub-regional LEAs.

SETPOINT West Yorkshire is a not-for-profit inclusive and strategic partnership organisation.

The SETPOINT will:
  • Build partnerships responding to priorities identified through consultation.
    We will identify, attract and focus funding in support of our strategic partners and the delivery of key objectives.
  • We will support and train teachers.
    We will build a focussed programme of teacher professional development.
  • We will support individual learners.
    We will develop and manage programmes and activities to enhance and enrich the learning of young people. We will identify, disseminate and build upon best learning practice.
  • We will support employers.
    We will make it easier for companies to identify and employ the young people they need. We will create workforce development and support programmes.
  • We will improve communication.
    We will make more and better information available to more people, more often. We will develop and implement impact assessment measures so that we can identify what makes a difference and gives value for money. We will celebrate and communicate success and develop praise and reward systems.
